Good times back at last music hall

The beat goes on: actor David Suchet at Wilton's.
12 April 2012

The world's oldest surviving music hall, which has been saved from closure, is to benefit from a gala in the Victorian style of its past.

The Players' Theatre Club, which has recreated Victorian music hall performances since 1936, is to put on a 75th anniversary extravaganza in aid of Wilton's Music Hall in Wapping. It was saved from closure this year after a campaign led by Poirot actor David Suchet. The hall first opened in 1858.

The gala, at Leicester Square Theatre on November 20, will feature song, dance and magic in the style of Wilton's heyday in the 1890s.
