Fears over exam marking errors

Head teachers' leaders today raised fears over the marking of this year's GCSE and A-level exams after scores of schools complained about inaccurate marks for tests for 14-year-olds.

The same system of checks by senior examiners is supposed to guarantee the accuracy of exam results for 16 and 18-year-olds, to be announced next month. But the Secondary Heads Association said the process had broken down in some of the results for 14-year-olds' tests, sent to nearly 180 schools.
