Father and daughter deny attack on Donal MacIntyre and wife

12 April 2012

A father and daughter today denied attacking BBC investigative reporter Donal MacIntyre and his wife.

Thugs set upon the couple in a wine bar and punched the reporter's wife in the face, arms and legs.

MacIntyre was having a quiet drink before his wife, Ameera de la Rose, underwent a brain scan for a tumour the following morning.

James Wild, 47, who lives in Malaga but also has a home in Surrey, and Caley Wild, 23, of Sunbury, denied being involved in the attack at the Cloud 9 bar in Hampton Court on June 17 last year. The pair spoke only to confirm their names and deny five charges of assault and taking revenge.

MacIntyre, 43, who has two young children and starred in Dancing on Ice, was allegedly punched to the ground and left with a black eye, cut face and concussion.

His 32-year-old wife suffered bruising to her face, arms and legs as she tried to protect her husband.

The attack was believed to have been sparked because MacIntyre was a key prosecution witness against the Chelsea Headhunters football hooligans following an undercover BBC documentary.

Alex Williams, prosecuting, told Guildford crown court said that CCTV footage and stills of the attack, as well as pictures of the MacIntyres' injuries, would be submitted as evidence. The Wilds will stand trial on October 25.
