Fancy a curry? Make mine a Belsize Bhuna

All in great taste: Anjem Jebeen created curry sauces for friends and named them after areas of north London, including the Belsize Bhuna

A charity worker who created a range of fresh curry sauces named after areas of north London has landed a deal to sell them at Fortnum & Mason.

Anjam Jebeen, 40, devised the Belsize Bhuna, the Hampstead Harooni and the Camden Chitur as part of her Mamajaan's range.

The sauces were first picked up for sale by several Budgens stores near her home in Hampstead and this week, two weeks after approaching the "grocer to the royal family" in Piccadilly, Ms Jebeen made her first delivery there.

The mother of one, who began to learn to cook as a teenager, said: "I drove down through Regent's Park and Savile Row with a huge grin on my face. I dropped off the sauces and I was so excited I parked on a double yellow line - I didn't care."

Ms Jebeen, who works for leukaemia charity Anthony Nolan matching donors with patients, initially made sauces to sell to friends and colleagues but soon had people knocking on her door asking for more. She started off making 100 a week in a rented kitchen and now makes more than 1,000.

She said: "At first it was just for friends in Hampstead but it quickly went from 20 friends to 50 to 100. I went to a proper branding company who helped me design the logo and the packets."

She called her company Mamajaan's after the name used for her by her 10-year-old daughter, Kinza.
