Eat my shorts, that's Beckham!

13 April 2012

David Beckham has finally cracked the US - and has a guest role in The Simpsons to prove it.

The Real Madrid star's cameo as himself comes just eight months after producers of the cartoon show refused to let him appear in their 300th episode. They claimed viewers would not have known who he was. But bosses back-tracked after the 28-year-old England captain raised his profile with a publicity tour of New York and Los Angeles with wife Victoria, 29, in the summer.

His £24 million transfer from Manchester United to Madrid was the clincher. Beckham's role comes just weeks after Tony Blair did a voice-over for his own cameo.

The Prime Minister will play a tourist guide welcoming the Simpsons to London in an episode on Sky One on January 9.

It is not known when Beckham will appear on the show.
