Easyjet faces baggage strike

12 April 2012

BAGGAGE handlers at budget airline easyJet have voted to strike in a dispute over pay and union recognition. Members of the Transport and General Workers Union at easyJet, based in Luton, backed industrial action by 65 votes to one.

Talks between the two sides will be held next week but the union warned that the threat of a strike was 'very real'.

The union is campaigning against an imposed 1.3% pay rise and wants the company to recognise the TGWU for bargaining.

'I remain hopeful that further discussions with the company may resolve our problems,' said Tony Woodley, deputy general secretary of the TGWU.

EasyJet said it was holding 'amicable' talks with the TGWU and was confident it could reach an agreement.
