Day of misery for King's Cross rail passengers

12 April 2012

Train passengers endured misery on the main London to Scotland rail route today.

Overhead wire problems and a broken-down train led to cancellations and delays of up to two hours on a section of the East Coast Main Line.

The problem section was between Huntingdon and Peterborough. It affected services run by the East Coast, First Capital Connect, First Hull Trains and Grand Central train companies.

Delays between Peterborough and King's Cross station in London were expected to last until at least 6pm.

East Coast advised customers not to travel to and from King's Cross today if possible. Passengers who needed to travel were advised to use an alternative route where available.

A signalling problem also caused disruption to National Express East Anglia services between Ipswich and Felixstowe. Buses had to replace trains between the two Suffolk towns.
