Briton killed working in Iraq

A Briton has been killed while working as a security consultant in Iraq, it emerged today.

Julian Davies died in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on June 24, the Foreign Office said.

The 39-year-old from Newport, south Wales, was working for international firm Global Risk Strategies, which has about 1,000 people in Iraq and is helping with post-conflict reconstruction projects.

A spokeswoman for the company said: "We have informed Mr Davies' family and we would appreciate the maintenance of their privacy at this time in order for them to grieve their loss."

Mr Davies is the third man from south Wales to die while working in security in Iraq.
