Briton killed by arrow in Spain

Gerard Couzens13 April 2012

A LONDON man has been found dead at his home in Spain with an arrow through his chest.

Amateur archer Mark Nougher, 53, was discovered in his flat near the Costa Blanca resort of Torrevieja by his Spanish lodger, who was away at the weekend. His crossbow was nearby.

Spanish police believe Mr Nougher, a weapons collector, died in a freak accident. A post-mortem was due to take place today in Alicante.

Foreign Office staff were trying to contact Mr Nougher's ex-wife and grown-up daughter, who remained in Britain when he emigrated to Spain about two years ago.

A police source said: "There were no signs of a break-in and we've discovered no suicide note indicating this man may have wanted to take his own life."
