Boris Johnson primary Canonbury fails Ofsted report

The school where Boris Johnson sent his children has failed its Ofsted inspection amid a crisis in teaching standards and shambolic staff vetting procedures.

Canonbury Primary in Islington will now be placed in special measures, as the Evening Standard revealed last month.

The inspectors' report said: "The school is failing to give pupils an acceptable standard of education and those responsible for leading, managing or governing it are not demonstrating the capacity to secure necessary improvement."

Last year then head teacher Jay Henderson was sacked for viewing porn on school computers.

Though Canonbury's Sats remain above average under new head Matt Britt, it will now be overseen by an Ofsted-appointed committee.

The decline in standards led to complaints from parents, who have included Lord Adonis. Up to 30 of the 70 staff could now go.

Mr Britt said: "I truly believe that with the prompt action governors have supported me to take, we have already laid the foundation for turning Canonbury around."
