Barrister jailed for a year for perverting course of justice to win custody battle

Bruce Hyman was attacked for his 'appalling professional misconduct' as he was jailed for 12 months today

Bruce Hyman, 49. a respected former BBC radio producer, sent a fake legal document to incriminate his opponent during a family hearing, Bristol Crown Court heard.

Representing a woman friend who was fighting to keep custody of her four-year-old child, Hyman sent bogus emails to incriminate her ex-husband.

The prosecution said the conviction was "unprecedented".

Judge Tom Crowther told Hyman, 49, of Downshire Hill, north-west London, he had "no choice" but to jail him for 12 months.
