Bakery 'is too smelly' to open by curry house

Evening Standard13 April 2012

Council planners are trying to stop a bakery opening next to a curry house as the smell of bread would disturb its neighbours.

Giovanni Dilieto wants to reopen a shop near the Oval in Brixton Road which operated until the Eighties. Planning officers said Lambeth should reject his application as it "would have an unacceptable impact upon neighbouring properties by way of noise and disturbance including fumes and smells".

Liberal Democrat councillor Andrew Sawdon said he hoped the planning committee would ignore the advice. He added: "The Dilietos want to run a local business, which most people would welcome."

Lambeth would not comment until making its decision tomorrow.
