BA bids to change investor structure

BRITISH Airways will ask Tuesday's agm to approve a change in the shareholding structure which would allow foreign investors for the first time to own a majority of the stock.

The airline says it wants to create a special share which would get around the 50% shareholding cap. Foreign investors already own 46%.

Other ex-national champions, such as BAE Systems, have already seen foreign ownership pass 50%.

The change could eventually open the door to a foreign takeover - Brussels permitting.
