Average house price back above £200,000

The average house price has broken back through the £200,000 barrier after rising by 1.7% during November, Government figures showed today.

The average UK home now costs £200,454, 0.6% more than in November 2008, according to Communities and Local Government (CLG).

It is the first time that annual house price inflation has been positive since June 2008 as the property market continues to recover.

But separate research from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors showed that the rate at which prices are rising slowed during December as the gap between supply and demand narrowed.
