Attache charged over plane row

13 April 2012

A British diplomat arrested at Heathrow after a disturbance on board a flight was charged today with using threatening behaviour and being drunk on an aircraft.

Defence attache Colonel Peter Roberts MBE, who is based in Thailand, was held on board a plane from Bangkok shortly after it touched down on February 17.

The 50-year-old colonel will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates Court in west London on March 11, Scotland Yard said.

Colonel Roberts has been charged with being drunk on an aircraft contrary to the Air Navigation Act 2000.

He has also been charged with using threatening behaviour contrary to the Public Order Act 1986.

It has been reported that the colonel had been involved in the relief effort following the Boxing day tsunami disaster which devastated parts of western Thailand.
