Alli to join new Chorion arm

12 April 2012

BARS and nightclubs operator Chorion named Planet 24 co-founder Lord Waheed Alli in a line-up of directors for its soon-to-be-demerged intellectual property division.

Lord Alli's company produced television hits such as The Big Breakfast and TFI Friday. The New Chorion IP business will own the rights to Noddy and Agatha Christie.

Nick Tamblyn, chief executive of the combined group, will become executive chairman at New Chorion while current group chairman John Conlan will be executive chairman at the bars operation, which is to be renamed Urbium.

Chorion spent £4.99 dreaming up the name, which is Latin for 'of the cities'. According to Conlan, the branding process cost 'nothing more than the price of a dictionary'.

Robert Cohen and Nick James will remain as managing directors respectively of Urbium and New Chorion in the demerger, which should be completed early in May.
