80 arrests in raids on Southwark gangs

12 April 2012

Armed police have seized nearly 80 people in a series of raids targeting gangs in Southwark.

After one operation 49 people were charged with 212 offences, mostly involving Class-A drugs.

Twenty-six people have been convicted of
drug-related offences — with some receiving jail sentences — and others are awaiting trial. Some of those convicted were members of the Shoot Instant Gang, an offshoot of the Peckham Boys.

Details of the raids were released after it was revealed that one of the killers of Damilola Taylor, 10, is to be freed less than four years after receiving an eight-year sentence for manslaughter. Rickie Preddie, 23, was in the Peckham Boys.
