2,000 off-licence workers lose their jobs

Almost 2,000 jobs went today when the administrators of the collapsed wine retailer behind Threshers, Wine Rack and The Local off-licence chains announced plans to close another 381 stores.

Administrator KPMG said the move would mean 1,908 redundancies within high street stores, and 34 at First Quench group's head office in Welwyn Garden City.

Stores will shut by 16 December, each holding a huge liquidation sale, starting on Tuesday. KPMG said: "There has not been sufficient interest in the stores so we have no option."
