Gemma Collins opens up on ‘heartbreaking’ miscarriage in lockdown

Gemma Collins has revealed her heartbreak after having a miscarriage during the coronavirus lockdown.

In an interview with Loose Women, the reality star, 39, said that she is trying to remain hopeful about motherhood and is open to options including surrogacy and adoption.

“I did go through a very sad miscarriage in lockdown and due to PCOS [polycystic ovary syndrome] I just thought I was having an unusually heavy period,” she explained.

She said that she eventually contacted a doctor after 10 days, who told her to go “straight to the hospital.”

“My personal life is heartbreaking - having a miscarriage with someone you love very much is heartbreaking,” Collins said.

“It was very sad but it does make me realise that potentially there is hope there for me for the future.”

The former TOWIE star said that she had been trying to lose weight after a “top specialist” told her that doing so could help her conceive.

“I pray every night that everything’s going to work out for me,” she revealed, adding that although she is very close to her nephew and “love[s] him like [her] own,” she wants to “feel motherhood.”

“I don’t want that robbed from me in my life, that would be a travesty,” she continued.

“There’s so many good options like adoption: Madonna’s done it, Angelina Jolie’s done it, the GC could be next.”

Collins suffered from technical issues at the start of her interview, as the star’s camera came unstuck and fell upside down.

Collins admitted that she had tried to stick it in place on her tripod with gaffer tape, but the camera had still fallen over.

The sound on her microphone later cut out when she was speaking to host Nadia Sawalha.
