Inside Judy Garland’s former Hollywood Hills mansion: LA estate once home to star couple and daughter Liza Minnelli sold after £1.1 million price drop

Musicals queen lived in the grand house with film director husband Vincente Minnelli from 1944 until their daughter, who would grow up to become the Oscar-winning star of Seventies blockbuster movie Cabaret, was two years old.

A spectacular five-bedroom Hollywood Hills mansion that once belonged to screen musicals legend Judy Garland has found a buyer after several months on the market.

The Wizard of Oz star lived in the show-stopping property perched just above Sunset Strip from 1944 to 1948, during which time she married Vincente Minnelli, who directed her in the hit movie musical Meet Me in St Louis. Their daughter Liza was born in 1946.

Sold this month for £3.5 million, the Los Angeles estate was put on the market in February this year – originally for £4.6 million – according to a report by People.

When Garland and her family moved in, the property was only three years old, having been built by “architect to the stars” John Woolf in 1941.

Other Hollywood greats to have lived in Woolf-designed homes include Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn.

Today, the Art Deco-style home spans three floors of suitably A-list living space, in large part due to modifications by another former superstar owner, the late singer, musician, film star and member of the Hollywood “Rat Pack”, Sammy Davis Jr.

Davis bought the property in 1955, expanding it and adding a separate pool house where he could record music and host late-night parties without disturbing his children asleep in the main house, according to selling agent Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties.

Along with five bedrooms and eight bathrooms in the main house, the pool house and pool, there’s also an orchard and extensive gardens.

In the same road is another property once owned by Davis, which is now for sale through Jason Oppenheim, star of hit Netflix property show Selling Sunset.

Among highlights is the “conversation pit” complete with fireplace, set in the middle of the outdoor pool. It’s for sale at £6 million, or to rent for £30,000 a month.
