Cavernous triple mews house for sale in Notting Hill on 20-home street where Jenson Button had a pied-à-terre
Should Lewis Hamilton decide to hang up his helmet this year, he might decide to follow in fellow F1 world champion Jenson Button’s tyre tracks with a home on this Notting Hill mews.
Hidden behind a black-brick facade, a rare triple mews house has come up for sale in Powis Mews, where Button once owned a pied-à-terre.
The property has 3,538 sq ft of living space — more than three times the UK average — arranged across four floors with three bedrooms, plus a roof terrace.
The current owner, a self-trained architect, bought the house as a project in 2012 but has decided to sell as they are no longer spending as much time in the UK, according to Domus Nova who are marketing the property for £8.95 million.
Renovations included adding a basement to the triple mews house, carving out the 50-metre-high ceiling in the main living space and adding the impressive roof terrace.
“As you might expect houses don’t come up very often for sale [on Powis Mews] — maybe once every couple of years, and certainly nothing ever comes up that matches this house in terms of price, size or grandeur,” said Domus Nova associate Joshua Ratcliffe.
“It would suit a couple who love to host and entertain, there is even a “nightclub bathroom” downstairs and the house is quite simply made for hosting,” Ratcliffe added.
There are fewer than 20 properties on the exclusive mews off Westbourne Park Road, with only 21 Powis Mews a similar size to the number 4-5 Powis Mews for sale today.
Other homes to have featured in Jenson Button’s impressive property portfolio over the years include a vast mansion on the exclusive St George’s Hill Estate in Weybridge that he listed for sale for £2.5 million in 2012. “The house is lovely, but it’s massive and we hardly go there,” he told the Evening Standard at the time. “I think I visited it only three times last year.”
More recently, Button and his wife Brittany Ward parted with a Bel-Air farmhouse after listing it for sale for $9.4 million (£7.6 million) in 2020.
The couple splashed out on a Spanish Revival bungalow in Santa Monica for $5.8 million (£4.7 million) earlier this year.
