Best for healthy treats

Tombo

Matcha is a particular kind of green tea made from powdered leaves — as well as a more powerful flavour, you get more antioxidants. At Tombo, a pretty little Japanese café, you can try matcha as a tea, latte or frappe — or in a pud: matcha macaroons, tiramisu, sundaes and brownies are almost guilt-free (from £1.70).

Best for sweet tooths

Shackfuyu

With its Mr Whippy-like squiggle of soft-serve, vividly coloured green tea ice cream, the kinako French toast (£6) served at Japanese-style restaurant Shackfuyu is one of London’s most Instagrammed dishes. It’s as good to eat as it is to photograph: sticky, sweet, squidgy, rich and rather huge.

Best for vegans

Ms Cupcake

In a blind tasting, you’d be hard pressed to tell that Ms Cupcake’s creations are vegan — not only do the cakes have a spot-on, buttery texture, but they also come with great towers of icing swirls, plus sprinkles. Green tea is just one of dozens of flavours on offer (from £2.60).
