New pop-up offering chance to eat 450ft up in the air

Brave: workers on the Rockefeller building

It is one of the most famous images of the 20th century — a group of construction workers enjoying their lunch high above New York while sitting on the frame of the Rockefeller building.

Now Deliveroo are hoping brave Londoners will help re-create the famous Lunch Atop a Skyscraper image and are launching a pop-up dining experience in the capital next week.

The delivery service is offering diners the chance to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner on a specially-built rig 450ft in the air on the roof of a 32-storey skyscraper in London. Just 200 Londoners will get the chance to ascend the building — still to be officially revealed — and then climb on top of the eight-metre steel girder especially set up for the stunt, which will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

Those lucky — or brave — enough to complete the experience will enjoy panoramic views of landmarks including the London Eye, BT Tower and St Paul’s Cathedral for a 30-minute slot before then climbing down again.

Diners at the Eat UP restaurant will be able to order from local Deliveroo brands including Tortilla, Bleeker, Coca di Mama & Lola's Cupcakes.

The online ballot to secure a place will take place tomorrow and will be released via the Deliveroo Twitter account.
