If you’ve been staring longingly at your Instagram feed while you watch picture after brightly-coloured picture of mermaid toast wash up from the States, then hanker no more.

Mermaid toast has completed its swim across the pond.

Food artist and baker Miss Trixie will be whipping up her own aquatic take on mermaid toast and serving it for free at Stratford’s new East Village Market on Sunday June 25.

She will offer a choice of recipes including The Ariel featuring a pastel bright strawberry and mint concoction, and another called The Ursula, representing a moody, dark ocean scene complete with blackberries and Nutella Oreo yoghurt.

There will be 500 free slices available, with visitors advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Trixie said: “I have been admiring Mermaid Toast, and its sister version – Unicorn Toast – for the last few months and couldn’t resist giving it a go myself, which meant getting straight into the kitchen and playing with sea-themed colours and flavours. I’ve had such fun creating something which is as beautiful to eat as it is to look at. I can’t wait to see what people think of them at the East Village Market.”

The market will take place every Sunday, with 20-25 stalls, including alpine street food from Raclette Brothers and wings and burgers from the rather wonderfully-named Lord of the Wings.
