Our restaurant critic eats lamb rump at the Hilton Park Lane and cooks up a roast chicken feast for her family
May 2013

Feeding the 700 — including a main course of lamb rump with horseradish dauphinoise, carrots and French beans — ably managed by Hilton Park Lane at the inaugural International Opera Awards 2013. Sat near German operatic tenor Jonas Kaufmann.

Lunching with the editor, grilled cod of pearly succulence at Kensington Place, with equally nourishing chat.

In Locanda Locatelli’s private dining room, Newsworks, the marketing body for national newspapers, gave a dinner that featured monkfish with bristling barba di frati (monk’s beard) in a wondrous walnut and caper sauce.

My granddaughter Ruby, over from New Zealand, was the jumping-off point for a big family supper. Almost everyone liked the fresh sweetcorn pancakes I made to go with roast chicken.

Luciano Monosilio’s “Legendary Carbonara”, pictured, at the Identita Lunch of a Lifetime at Harrods, a meal that went on so long it seemed perfectly named.
