Five more modern Indians

10 April 2012

Zamzama not enough to sate your lust for fine modern Indian cuisine? OK. Here are five more suitable candidates...

GINGER , 115 Westbourne Grove, W2 (020 7908 1990). Chic and modern restaurant serving genuine Bangladeshi food. Mid-priced.

THE RED FORT , 77 Dean Street, W1 (020 7437 2115). Recently reopened after a refurb, quietly stylish from the trendy basement bar to the giant pots in the dining room. Classy cooking at serious prices.

3 MONKEYS , 136 Herne Hill, SE24 (020 7738 5500). With its indoor bridge and modern dining room, you'll feel more W1 than SE24. The cooking and the prices also lean towards West End levels.

FRIENDS INDIAN RESTAURANT , 38 Alderman's Hill, N13 (020 8882 5002). An outpost of metropolitan chic. Good cooking and accessible prices.

THE CINNAMON CLUB , Old Westminster Library, Great Smith Street, SW1 (020 7222 2555). Real charm served up in panelled former library. The food is sophisticated, and while you pay to share the room with all those politicians and celebrities, it's worth it.
