How to make the perfect green banana smoothie

Our juice columnists from Imbibery London share their recipe an all year round smoothie
Hannah Hutchins

We love using seasonal ingredients for our diet. Now that spring has sprung, we're integrating ingredients like bananas and lettuce into this smoothie.

Bananas are a favourite. You can take a very ripe one, cut it up into pieces and freeze it, or use a ripe one that you have at the moment (you may just want to then add some ice to the smoothie). As many know, bananas are a great source of potassium (helping with muscle cramps) but they're also a great source of biotin which we love for hair, skin and nails. Bananas are also easily digestible, so ideal for people with GI problems.

Spinach, as you know by now, is our most favourite superfood, loaded with chlorophyll. Studies have shown that spinach consumption may help decrease obesity, as it increases certain hormones that make you feel full.

We love to use romaine lettuce at this time of year as it is loaded with water and helps combat dehydration in these warmer months, which will help give you that supple glow and avoid looking or feeling dried out.

Almond milk is great as it adds some protein to this smoothie and its vitamin E content helps keep your skin fight the sun's damaging rays and inflammation. Just be sure to make sure you use an almond milk with no additives or unnatural sweetener.

Finally, cinnamon is our secret weapon with this smoothie - and in other aspects of our life. Not only does it taste delicious and add a natural sweetness, it actually helps your body stabilise blood sugar levels (there's even research underway studying its ability to help Type 2 diabetics and insulin response). It should also help you combat sugar cravings.

Enjoy this smoothie not only this month, but throughout the year.
