Al Desko: Jordans Luxury Absolute Berry Bar

What: Jordans Luxury Absolute Berry Bar.

Where from: £2.25/3 pack from Waitrose. (jordanscereals.co.uk).

Taste assessment: No, not some bizarre aphrodisiac mouth-pleaser from the ever-diversifying business brain of Katie Price, but the latest offering from the granola producers who introduced the cereal bar to Britain in 1981. Back then, Jordans’ Original Crunchy Bars were as hard as nails but seen as a healthy alternative to Fab lollies or caramel wafers. Today, the Absolute Berry version has the generically syrupy, Rice Krispie-ish taste of most cereal bars, and comes studded with sharply sweet, dried gobbets of strawberry, cranberry and blackcurrant. There’s no added salt or artificial flavourings, but the ingredients include various juice concentrates, syrups and sustainable palm oil. Bring back the caramel wafer.
