Harper Lee Go Set A Watchman release: Evening of celebrations and midnight opening at Waterstones Piccadilly

The flagship bookshop will host an evening all about To Kill A Mocking Bird in the run-up to the new book’s release

The release of Harper Lee’s hotly-anticipated book Go Set A Watchman will be marked by an evening dedicated to the author culminating in a midnight book launch at Waterstones Piccadilly.

The book will go on sale on Tuesday July 14 at midnight, following an evening of discussions about To Kill A Mocking Bird and a screening of the 1962 film adaptation on Monday July 13.

The evening’s line-up is shown below, but the free tickets have now sold out. Email piccadilly@waterstones.com to be added to the waiting list.

7.30-8.15pm: Harper Lee & Contemporary Fiction

Join authors Joanna Trollope and Paul McVeigh, and theatre director Timothy Sheader to discuss Harper Lee and the enduring influence of her 1960 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.

8.30-9.15pm: Harper Lee & Human Rights

Join Director of Liberty Shami Chakrabarti and Labour MP Diane Abbott as they debate the issues of racism, human rights and equality explored inTo Kill A Mockingbird, and assess the novel’s influence on a generation of lawyers and policy-makers.

9.30-11.45pm: The Film

A big screen showing of the classic 1962 adaptation of To Kill A Mockingbird starring Gregory Peck and Mary Badham.

Midnight: Opening

Go Set A Watchman will be unveiled to the public and available to buy for the very first time.
