He has gone from the streets to the stage and now breakdancing trickster Magical Bones has taken his act to The Shard.

The Peckham-born magician, real name Richard Essien, showed off his stunning signature backflip card trick at 1,016 ft. A variation on the “pick a card” routine in which the magician tries to guess the correct card, Bones goes one better by throwing the cards in the air, performing a backflip, and catching the card in his hand.

Understandably Bones, 34, who started off as a backing dancer for the likes of Madonna, Alicia Keys and the Black Eyed Peas, does not worry about other magicians pinching his tricks.

He told the Standard: “I can confidently say I’m probably the only breakdancing magician in the world. I’ve been into magic since I was a kid. When I was on music video sets I’d do card tricks to entertain people and they encouraged me to pursue it. But I’ve only been doing it professionally for about five years.”

He started doing tricks in Covent Garden and Oxford Street, and is now performing alongside Britain’s Got Talent winner Richard Jones in stage show Impossible at the Noël Coward Theatre, until August 27.
