Technology is changing at a frantic rate, as are our food tastes – and Dara O Briain is looking at the relationship between the two.

In Tomorrow’s Food, the comedian and scientist offers a look at the fascinating tech that already exists which could point the way to our culinary futures.

In the final episode of the series, which began in 2015, O Briain visits a factory in Yorkshire to find out more about the leading meat substitute Quorn.

It’s fascinating stuff – beginning as miniature specks of fungus, which grows rapidly with the addition of undisclosed measures of sugar, nutrients and water. Within a week there’s enough Quorn to fill a 10-storey building.

Elsewhere, the documentary offers a look at the mind-boggling concept of 3D-printed food – which feels like it could be a genuine gamechanger in the next few decades.

With specifications laid out on a computer, 3D-printed food can be tailored to whatever shape, size, and flavour you like. The printer, filled with the raw ingredients, is able to whip up real-looking food that – apparently – tastes good too.

Dara even prints out a white chocolate lolly in the shape of his own face. Bizarre.

Even more mind-mangling is the concept of goats producing human breast milk – a move that could save lives.

Expect to be equally enthralled and freaked out.
