Calling all fans of The Office – your prayers have been answered. The return of Ricky Gervais’ iconic character David Brent is coming, as feature film Life on the Road is officially being funded.

As you might guess from the title, the film is a road-movie which follows Brent and his band Foregone Conclusion on tour. As with The Office, it will be shot in a mockumentary style.

The film is being financed by BBC Films and Entertainment One, and according to Gervais will give more insight into Brent’s private life. "We really get to peel back the layers of this extraordinary, ordinary man," he explained.

The film is written and directed by Gervais, with a release date yet to be announced.

Gervais has written and performed as Brent a few times in the past – his musical talents initially came to the fore in The Office, where he regaled his team with a rendition of his original song Free Love Freeway. Then came ‘political reggae’ song Equality Street for Comic Relief in 2013, as well as a series of guitar lesson videos on YouTube.

David Brent and Foregone Conclusion also performed some live shows in late 2013 and 2014 to critical acclaim.
