Greg Davies has gone mad with power. As the titular Taskmaster of Dave’s new comedy panel show, the literal comedy giant has taken it upon himself to set feats for five competing comedians to attempt, from the sublime to the ridiculous.

The show’s format originated in an Edinburgh Festival Fringe show back in 2010, and now makes its way to the small screen with Roisin Conaty, Tim Key, Romesh Ranganathan, Frank Skinner, and Josh Widdicombe along for the ride.

In the first episode, Davies challenged his five competing comedians to try and eat a watermelon as fast as they could – with a twist. They had no implements, and had to smash the melon open and claw it apart with their bare hands.

While Tim Key made no bones about splitting his watermelon open on the provided table, Romesh Ranganathan took a slightly more problematic approach. Upon picking up his watermelon, he threw it down on the ground, where it exploded across the room leaving chunks everywhere.

The two set about guzzling down their splattered fruits, evidently struggling as they attempted to eat as much as they could against the clock.

Who’ll triumph with the most dignity intact? And what else does the Taskmaster have in store? Tune in to find out.
