Piers Morgan has vowed to go vegan – despite throwing up Greggs’ new vegan sausage roll live on air last week.

Morgan, 53, promised to ditch meat in favour of a plant based diet for one week only if Good Morning Britain win Best Daytime TV Show at this year’s National Television Awards.

“I pledge to go vegan for a week if we win – which could actually kill me,” he said.

“You should vote for us really because This Morning always win it and it’s boring that they always win. They’ve used half naked men to get your vote which is sexist and demeaning and for that reason they should be punished. Our friends at BBC Breakfast didn’t get on the shortlist – just imagine how much that would annoy them if we were to win.”

Thankfully for viewers he confirmed he will not be stripping off if Good Morning Britain beats This Morning, Loose Women, Sunday Brunch and The Jeremy Kyle Show.

“No, we decided that was a vote lose,” he said.

In case going vegan wasn’t enough to get viewers voting, Morgan also reiterated how his co-host Susanna Reid will present the breakfast show “drunk and helpless”.

Piers Morgan demands apology from Holly Willoughby

He said: “Susanna has vowed to fall spectacularly off the wagon should we win, go on a seven hour bender, and come to work drunk and present the entire show intoxicated which trust me, I’ve been with her in that state, she comes out with a lot of different stuff to this. If you want to see her drunk and helpless and spewing all sorts of inflammatory things – vote for us.

Morgan previously attacked Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield for promising This Morning viewers the cast of Magic Mike will drop by the studio should they win the Best Daytime TV gong again.

He also took aim at Ant McPartlin being up for the Best Presenter award, despite not being on TV for over a year after a drink-driving incident and a stint in rehab.
