Only Murders in the Building has shared an exclusive new look at the finale of season three.

The clip, which airs as part of the final episode on Tuesday October 3, shows the crime-solving trio at the heart of the show – Charles, Oliver and Mabel (played by Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez) – discussing the murder case with Meryl Streep’s actress Loretta.

“We need a confession on tape – it’s what we do – and on opening night,” Steve Martin’s Charles says. And there is a plan, although it soon becomes apparent that Charles and Oliver are butting heads.

“The Oliver lines on card three? I think I could take them,” Charles then says – adding, when Oliver protests, that “I think I could do more with them.”

“Is it always like this?” Loretta asks, watching them quarrel.

“This is us on fire,” Mabel replies.

Only Murders in the Building follows Charles, Oliver and Mabel, three inhabitants of the same block of flats, who discover a murder has happened in their building, the Arconia, and launch a true crime podcast to solve it.

Seasons one and two focused on the murders of the trio’s neighbours: Mabel’s childhood friend Tim Kono, died at the start of the series, followed by the Arconia’s board president, Bunny Folger, who was found dead at the end of season one.

By the start of season three, the friends have put their podcast on hiatus, the better to focus on Charles and Oliver’s upcoming Broadway play, a year after the events of Bunny’s murder.

However, much to everybody’s horror, the curtain comes up on the murder of star actor Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd), who dies on stage on opening night at the opening of Oliver’s comeback play. To solve it, the team have had to team up with struggling actress Loretta (Streep), who has her own secrets.

The show itself has had rave reviews since it launched in 2021 – the Standard described it as “the best comedy series of the decade so far.” And judging by the clip, season three is set to go out with a bang. The question is, will Death Rattle The Musical be coming to the West End anytime soon?

The Only Murders in the Building Season 3 finale premieres Tuesday 3 October on Disney+. The entire series is available exclusively on Disney+ with season 1 and 2 also available to stream
