EastEnders viewers were left confused after the show aired a scene about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement just nine hours after it was announced.

Fans of the BBC soap shared their surprise on social media, with some suggesting that the series’ writers must be ‘psychic’ as episodes are usually filmed months before airing.

One wrote: “How did EastEnders just happen to know about Harry and Meghan’s engagement?”

Another quipped: “EastEnders just did a Harry and Meghan scene. Who writes for them, Mystic Meg?”

Other viewers praised the show on its timeliness.

“Well done @bbceastenders. Loved that Harry and Meghan bit. Very impressed! #EastEnders,” commented one.

The scene showed characters Shakil Kazemi and Kathy Beale reacting to news of the engagement, and had been shot at short notice after the story broke.

As Kazemi entered the EastEnders café, he was so engrossed in looking at his phone that he ignored Beale who was waiting to serve him.

She asked: “What’s so interesting?”, to which he replied: “Oh nothing much, just some Prince bloke marrying some actress.”

But Beale wasn’t as underwhelmed as her customer, grabbing his phone and exclaiming: “What? Harry and Meghan? Nothing much? You kids! Aww.”

EastEnders continues Tuesday, November 28 at 7.30pm on BBC One.
