After Simon got the upper hand over the usually unflappable Gemma in last week's Doctor Foster, (who took a turn for the seriously stalkerish) viewers were crying out to see the GP get back to her usual collectedness.

Will she manage to out-scheme her smug ex-husband in episode three? Here’s what to expect from the latest instalment of the BBC drama.

1. Could Gemma and Simon be building bridges?

Episode two ended on quite the cliffhanger as Simon and Gemma were called into the headmistress’ office at Tom’s school and told he had attacked his friend.

Most of this week’s show is devoted to Gemma trying to suss out just exactly what could have provoked the usually placid Tom to turn violent.

She’s so desperate to find out the truth that she even agrees to a somewhat unlikely truce with Simon, as they decide to work together for Tom’s sakes.

But this is Doctor Foster so it would be unwise to take them at their word – expect the former husband and wife to be back at each other’s throats before the episode is out.

2. Anna announces she’s moving to Edinburgh

Not content with last week’s surprise announcement that she was splitting up with husband Neil, Anna drops the bombshell that she’s leaving Parminster.

Gemma’s long-suffering neighbour then seems to suggest that the GP might like to do the same, but not before Gemma uses the news to fuel her suspicion of Simon, telling Anna: ‘he’s trying to isolate me’.

3. Simon and Gemma discover that their feud has been affecting Tom in unexpected ways

If you’ve ever wondered just how beleaguered hormonal teen Tom has been coping with his parents bizarre behaviour, then wonder no more. The answer is: not well.

After the worrying news of Tom’s attack, Gemma’s attempts to discover more about her son’s life unearth some unsavoury revelations.

Doctor Foster continues on Tuesdays at 9pm on BBC One.
