David Gower appears to be unscathed after potentially ingesting raw chicken on Sunday Brunch.

The retired cricketer appeared on the Channel 4 show, where he helped to prepare a chicken dish in a beetroot marinade.

After handling the meat and coating it in the garnish, he then licked his fingers – sending Twitter into a frenzy.

However, he later took to the social media site to give an update, and said he ‘completely forgot to be ill’ after the incident.

“So very, very sorry. Completely forgot to be ill after yesterday's chicken handling,” he wrote. “That beetroot marinade must have had magical powers!

“Apologies too to all those who felt unwell or were apparently "disgusted". Don't you just love a media rant?!!

“Won't do it again. Honest!”

He also assured his fans that his Holy Bail tour of the UK would still go ahead as planned.

“By the way still fit for the #TheHolyBail tour,” he posted. “Promise that any pre show chicken sandwiches will be prepared by others. Butler needed!!”

When the show first aired, viewers were quick to share their reactions on Twitter.

Just to reiterate: don’t try this at home.
