How much for the bull semen?

Stoopud F*cken Animals often teeters on the edge of parody, making it difficult to know if something is meant to be funny

Stoopud F*cken Animals, by East Anglian writer Joel Horwood, describes itself as a "Suffolk Western" - a new musical form of a play with music and comedy. That would be a musical, then.

Charlie sells bull semen for a living but wants more out of life. His slow twin brother, Dim, works in a dead-end job and their mother is a drunk. The twins uncover a dark family secret and Charlie goes off to London to discover their true identity.

The work often teeters on the edge of parody and it's difficult to know if something really is meant to be funny.

Horwood gives himself too many big targets - agribusiness, the flight from small villages, masculinity - to nail any effectively.

There are some witty lines and committed acting (particularly from Carl Prekopp as Charlie) but the work suffers in Kate Budgen's misconceived production.
