Glynis plays the mistress

Preparing to play the temptress: Glynis Barber
10 April 2012

Glynis Barber is the latest actress to play Mrs Robinson in the stage version of The Graduate, it was announced today.

The former Dempsey and Makepeace star will join the West End show as it embarks on its first national tour.

Barber, 47, will follow in the footsteps of Kathleen Turner, Jerry Hall and Linda Gray by stripping off for the role.

The production opens at the Arts Theatre Cambridge on August 27 before touring the country.

The Graduate grossed more than £10 million in the West End before transferring to Broadway.

To coincide with the UK tour, Jerry Hall is taking the play to the United States where she is to open soon in San Francisco. Linda Gray and Sopranos star Lorraine Bracco will later take over from her.

Barber's Dempsey and Makepeace co-star and real-life husband, Michael Brandon, is currently playing the title role in Jerry Springer: The Musical at London's National Theatre.
