Sondheim fans start smacking your lips. The supremely talented Henry Goodman is bouncing back from his unhappy experiences in the Broadway production of The Producers to star in the famous musical, Follies.

His face may not have fitted as Max Bialystock, the Mel Brooks-created producer who tries to make his fortune from an insurance scam by setting up a show so offensive it should be a guaranteed flop. But four months later, here is a chance for him to remind audiences of his abilities.

He is joined by Mamma Mia! Star Louise Gold in this tale about a group of showgirls who reunite in the dilapidated Weissman Theatre to look back both at their lives, and at the building's more glamorous past. Broadway Baby and Losing My Mind are among the gems to look forward to. Follies, previews from Sat 3 August first night Tue 6 Aug, Royal Festival Hall, South Bank, SE1. (020 7690 4242)
