Extended run for Keira Knightley’s next play

Longer run: Keira Knightley and Elisabeth Moss in The Children’s Hour
10 April 2012

Keira Knightley's next play on a London stage has had its run extended by a month even before the reviews.

The Children's Hour, which co-stars Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss, is now booking at the Comedy Theatre until April 30 with previews starting in a fortnight. The official opening night is February 9.

Its longer run comes on the back of strong bookings but also because some of the cast had options for other work but have now been cleared for the extra dates.

The play is set in a girls' boarding school in Thirties New England. The lives of its two head teachers — played by Knightley, pictured far right, and Moss — are destroyed by a pupil's false claim that they are lesbian lovers. The play, written in 1934, was originally banned in London and some American cities.

Among the 15-strong cast is Ellen Burstyn, Oscar-winning star of films including The Exorcist.
