The first images of Marianne Elliott’s West End production of Company have been released.

The highly anticipated revival of Stephen Sondheim’s classic musical will feature Rosalie Craig playing the lead role of Bobbie. It’s the first time the part, traditionally played as Bobby, has been played by a woman.

In an interview with the Standard , Craig said that the gender reversals in the new production will bring the 1970 show into the present day. “By flipping the genders, as we’ve been working through it, we couldn’t believe how up to date it is,” she said.

The cast also features Broadway legend Patti LuPone, national treasure Mel Giedroyc, as well as renowned stage stars Jonathan Bailey, Alex Gaumond and Richard Fleeshman. It is designed by Bunny Christie.

The production is the second from Elliott’s company Elliot & Harper, founded alongside producer Chris Harper. Heisenberg: The Uncertainty Principle , a new play from Simon Stephens that starred Kenneth Cranham and Anne-Marie Duff, opened at Wyndham’s Theatre last October.

Company officially opens at the Gielgud Theatre next week, and runs until December 22.
