Education pioneer Sir Ken Robinson has teamed up with the Roundhouse in a bid to get more young people involved in the arts.

The writer and thinker, whose speech on creativity in schools is one of the most watched TED talks ever, will become associate creative curator at the Camden venue.

His five-year plan includes a three-day festival next February, when he takes on the role. It will be a “showcase and celebration of young people’s creative work”, with performances and workshops.

“What we want is not only to celebrate the work but bring it to the attention of funders and policymakers. These aren’t trivial pursuits, they are a very important part of the health of young people and their development,” he said.

The Roundhouse and Sir Ken aim to more than double the number of young people the venue works with every year from 4,500 to 10,000.

Yesterday Tate launched a membership scheme offering £5 entry to exhibitions for 16- to 25-year olds.
