Fortnite Doomsday event: What does the countdown clock mean?

The curtain falls on Fortnite's current season in June

Fortnite's season-ending Doomsday event, 'The Device' is starting today at 7pm BST, and the Doomsday clock is counting down to that.

Epic Games has announced that this event will be kicking off the end of Chapter 2, Season 2 of Fortnite.

It is unclear how long the event will last, Epic has said that Fortnite Season 3 will begin on Wednesday. We also don't know if the game will be offline tomorrow to implement the new update.

The leaks, discovered in the game files and posts on Twitter, all point to a countdown timer that has only appeared in the files since the most recent update, version 12.60.

Given Epic's track record with season-ending events in Fortnite, we can safely assume that when this timer hits zero tonight in 'The Device' event, something spectacularly catastrophic will be happening to the map.

There's a lot of speculation that the map will become flooded by the event, drastically changing numerous areas, it also seems that the device is going to be going off in the Agency HQ. If it will survive the event, remains to be seen.

Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 2 was slated to end in April, but Epic Games decided to give the whole season an extra month.

The new start date for Chapter 2, Season 3 is June 16.
