The Dixie Chicks, the top-selling female recording artists of all time, were the darlings of country music until Natalie Maines, the group's lead singer, said she was ashamed that George Bush came from Texas.
The remark was made apropos the Iraq war, and the result was death threats, boycotts and Neo-Con attempts to censor the group.
Barbara Kopple and Cecilia Peck's affirmative documentary shows how they stood up to be counted and continued to express themselves honestly through their music while remaining close friends and very popular entertainers.
Excellent examples, in fact, of the best kind of American liberalism.
