Pretty Woman revived

Classic: Pretty Woman
10 April 2012

Garry Marshall's 1990 success, revived in time for Valentine's Day, is, of course, just a fable.

But his tale of a vulnerable call-girl cleaned up by a rich businessman is at least watchable.

Julia Roberts is fresh and zingy as the call-girl and Richard Gere tries hard to match her, and generally succeeds in taming his natural charisma in favour of hers.

It's all fairly unconvincing - but its heart is roughly in the right place.
