Porn in the game of life

10 April 2012

This is the engaging story of a group of not very bright denizens of small-town America who decide to make a porno film without having the faintest idea how

They are led by a grandstanding Jeff Bridges as Andy, a divorced and unemployed man whose hair-brained schemes have failed before.

The Moguls is a comedy which, without showing much sex, talks fairly dirty but covers it with a patina of what it thinks is whimsical charm.

Ted Danson appears as one of the townsfolk - a gay man who pretends to be a macho hetero until asked to perform when they can't find a suitable stud.

The acting is nice. But Michael Traeger's film, funny in parts, relapses into a positive frenzy of feelgood sentimentality before the end, frightened perhaps that its subject matter will otherwise scare off audiences.
