Leap Year with a laboured plot

10 April 2012

Amy Adams stars as Anna, below, a naïve Bostonian who travels to Dublin in a leap year in order to propose to her boyfriend (Adam Scott) in Anand Tucker's half-baked rom-com.

When Anna gets lost in Tipperary, the locals give her scant help to reach Dublin until a debt-ridden chef (Matthew Goode) accepts the 500 she offers to get her there.

Gradually they fall in love. It's the kind of plot we've laboured through a dozen times before.

A woebegone screenplay and a caricatured view of Ireland make it even harder to endure.
