Animated fun on Planet 51 goes with a swing

10 April 2012

Jorge Blanco’s animated feature is steeped in Fifties imagery.

Green-skinned humanoids on another planet suddenly find a spaceship from Earth in their backyard.

The aliens have been conditioned to regard earthlings as deathray-wielding destroyers and only teenager Lem (voiced by Justin Long) is able to bond with Chuck (Dwayne Johnson), the captain of the ship, who is trying to avoid having his brain removed by Professor Kipple (John Cleese).

All this is jolly fun and it goes with a swing from start to finish.
